What is a Healthy Watershed
January 13-14, 2000
Chico
The SRWP held a workshop addressing the numerous issues that affect the health of our watershed. The two-day event in Chico, California, "What is a Healthy Watershed," was attended by more than 170 people. Roberta Moltzen, Deputy Regional Forester
for the United Forest Service was the keynote speaker. The workshop was designed to appeal to a broad range of people interested in improving the health of watersheds. The attendee list included scientists, farmers and ranchers, teachers, students and
landowners. One landowner even had her attendance paid for as a Christmas gift from her daughter!
Attendees learned how individuals and local and state agencies are pursuing their goals. Topics included fire prevention and protection, flood management, ecological habitat, and water quality management. The workshop received coverage by both a Chico
TV station as well as the local newspaper.
The SRWP found co-sponsors and supporters for the workshop including the State Water Resources Control Board, California Department of Water Resources, For the Sake of the Salmon, and the Watershed Management Council. SRWP is looking forward to sponsoring
future watershed workshops.
