Congratulations to SRWP 2008 Watershed Excellence Award Winners!
SRWP presented three Watershed Excellence awards at the Annual Stakeholders Meeting on 11/5/08, one for an organization and two for individuals who have made significant contributions to improving conditions in the Sacramento River Watershed. Congratulations to all!
Todd Sloat
Pit River Watershed Alliance
Todd serves as the watershed coordinator for not one, not two, but three organizations: Pit River Watershed Alliance, Pit RCD, and Fall River RCD. Following up with an assessment of the Pit River Watershed, Todd is now leading the development of a management plan for the watershed. He is also working on a management plan for Fall River and Burney and Hat creeks.
Liz Mansfield
El Dorado Irrigation District
Liz served as the driving force behind the development of the Cosumnes, American, Bear, Yuba (CABY) Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (IRWMP). She successfully convinced her region's decision makers to establish this multi-county program that traverses four river basins. She recognized early on that it was critical to include multiple stakeholders and perspectives at the table. She continues to work hard to integrate shared vision planning principles and practices to reflect watershed functions and services.
Laguna Creek Watershed Council
The Laguna Creek Watershed Council is responsible for numerous new large interpretive signs along the creek trails in Elk Grove and a successful stream stewards program that has included adoption of key reaches of the creek by community groups, schools, and local girl scouts. They also recently published a management plan for the watershed. Consultant Carmel Brown says, "Laguna Creek Watershed Council is the most amazing grass roots watershed group I have ever had the privilege of working with." |
