CA Water Plan Update
Sacramento Regional Outreach Meeting
 
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) is holding an Outreach Workshop for the Sacramento River Region to share the status of the California Water Plan Update planning process, and overview of the Resource Management Strategy for the Sacramento River Basin.

The California Water Plan provides a framework for water managers, legislators, and the public to consider options and make decisions regarding California's water future. The Plan, which is updated every five years, presents basic data and information on California's water resources including water supply evaluations and assessments of agricultural, urban, and environmental water uses to quantify the gap between water supplies and uses.

With nearly 60 local watershed groups and Resource Conservation Districts working independently to protect and improve their portion of the Sacramento River Watershed, SRWP recognizes that, combined, this alliance can be very effective in advancing and improving water policy. We believe the collective efforts of local watershed partners could be supported and enhanced through a more unified organization and voice... the Sacramento River Watershed Coalition!

Watershed Day at the Capitol on Thursday, April 10, 2008

The California Watershed Network is hosting the 7th Annual Watershed Day at the Capitol on April 10th!  This is a great opportunity to learn about the political climate regarding watersheds and hear the latest happenings in State programs such as the Integrated Regional Water Management Program  (IRWMP) and California Watershed Program.  After the morning discussions, participants are encouraged to meet with their legislators!
 
Join SRWP and Meet with Your Legislators! 
 
SRWP will be arranging meetings with legislators and/or their staff on the afternoon of April 10th.  If interested in participating in one or more of the meetings please contact Mary Lee Knecht at marylee@sacriver.org and include your legislator(s) name or your zip code.  Don't be intimated or shy about participating ... this is a fantastic opportunity to educate our elected officials on the importance of local watershed management and how it helps to meet the State's goals!

Throughout the month of May, watershed partnerships, educators, and other community groups are encouraged to promote the importance of watershed stewardship at the community level by organizing and participating in watershed awareness activities. To celebrate Watershed Awareness Month, participants can take part in watershed walks, project field tours, water quality monitoring, streamside cleanups, and other activities already taking place in their watersheds - or organize an event of your own! Start planning your events now!  In honor of May Watershed Awareness Month, watershed partners in Shasta and Tehama counties are hosting Watershed Festival 2008, with exhibitors, hands on activities, food, and music!  Contact Leslie Bryan for more information!
